Where Would You Stay in Dubai?

Yesterday, standing in the passport security line in Salt Lake City, I spoke to the couple I'm planning a Dubai trip for this coming October. We briefly talked about what they would like to do on a luxed-out trip to the Emerates.

Since they don't really know much about the place, the only thing they could come up with was that they wanted to eat at really expensive restaurants and ski in the indoor slope in the mall.

While they're worried about eating and activities, I'm worried about where they're going to sleep. Finding a dream place for this couple is a difficult balance of meeting expectations and delighting them.

In my mind there are two or three hotels where I would consider putting the small group:

1. Burj Al Arab Hotel
2. Jumeirah Zabeel Saray
3. One and Only, The Palm, Dubai

I think everybody in North America saw the advert with Tiger Woods hitting the golf ball off of the Burj Al Arab's helipad. Since this is the only hotel Americans know in Dubai, I wonder if they'll be disappointed if they stay somewhere else. I'm not a fan, but I hate to crash expectations.

When I was in Dubai this March, I stayed in the newly-opened Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel. Zabeel Saray is marked by solid Arabic styling, and is said to be modeled after an Ottoman palace.

Beautiful detailing (except the IKEA click flooring in my room)
Nifty lighting

My third option is the One and Only, Palm, Dubai. It comes highly-recommended, but unfortunately, I haven't had the privilege of testing out the pillows. If anyone has seen the place, please drop me a line.
