An Alsatian Castle for the Night

After visiting the two WWI battle sites, we drove into the Vosges Mountain National Park.

Originally, I wanted to stay in a castle hotel for the night (for the kids, right?) but after running up the figures for officially-designated "Castles," gave up and booked the cheapest hotel I could find.

That night we were delighted to find I had accidentally booked a chateau perched on a mountain top.

We ate sandwiches, and quickly fell asleep to the sound of mountain rain.

Next morning,
We awoke to a misty, forested view of the Vosges Mountains.
After breakfast of recycled dinner sandwiches,
 My nephew challenged grandma,
To a game of rainy garden chess.
When check-mate finally came,

We packed up the car,
And set the GPS West,

  1. Great Chateau! Love the outside chess board too. How did you like renting a vehicle in France?

    1. I was stressed about renting and driving in France, but it was really easy. Lots of toll roads, and driving around Paris was madness, but the rest of the country was great.
