The Cheapest Way to Get from Charles de Gaulle to the Marriott Rive Gauche

www.parisbytrain.com

When my family arrives in Paris this May, I may not be able to meet them at the airport. The thought of them wandering around without a leader freaks me out. But I should just chill, because Charles de Gaulle is relatively easy to navigate.

There are lots of ways to get into town, but I'm thinking the RER B train will be the least expensive and least traumatic for first-time Paris visitors.

Ok, so an even more discounted option would be to send them on the Roissybus for 6.40€ a ticket. I've taken this option before, but the journey time is about 60 minutes, and then they would have to navigate the Metro by themselves to the Marriott after getting dropped off at Opera. There are just way too many opportunities for getting lost.

One-way Prices on RER B

9,10€ Full Fare
6,40€ Children 4 - 9
Free Children under 4

What it'll cost me to get my family to the Marriott:

(9.10€ x 6 Full Fares) x (6.40€ x 1 Child 4-9 Fare) = 61€ or about $80 USD

Directions
  • Follow Paris by Train signs. My family will be on DL89 from Salt Lake City.  When they exit customs they'll need to take a left, go down a hallway, up some stairs, down another hallway and then down another set of stairs to the ticket machines.
  • Buy a ticket at the green RER Machines. The touch screen is available in English so you should be able to figure this out.
  • Use a credit card with a chip or cash. The ticket machines only accept chip and pin credit cards. I got a JP Morgan Select Card last year, and it works great. If you don't have one of these cards, get Euros from the ATM and use cash.
  • Take stairs to RER B platform and board the train.
  • Get off at Denfert Rochereau. For the Marriott, get off at the Denfert Rochereau RER Station. This will be stop number 16, and comes after the Port Royal stop. Metro stop names will be prominently displayed in each station, so just look out the window. If you miss the stop, get out at the next station, and catch the train in the opposite direction. (This happens to me all the time).
  • Walk to Marriott Rive Gauche. It's a few minutes' walk down blvd Saint-Jacques.
